Tennis team has undefeated season

Few things in sports rank up there with an undefeated season.

Except, maybe, having hometown fans set an attendance record in the process.

Such was the case April 13, when the UVA men’s tennis team blanked Wake Forest to complete a 25-0 regular season (11-0 ACC). The turnout of 859 spectators was the most ever at Snyder Tennis Center.

Led by defending NCAA singles champion Somdev Devvarman, the Cavs were ranked No. 1 in the nation during the entire season, went undefeated in the ACC for the second straight year and won the ACC Tournament.

“To go through an entire regular season undefeated is so hard to do,” says ACC Coach of the Year Brian Boland. “It is a special accomplishment.”

The team hopes to extend its outstanding play into the NCAA Tournament, which concludes in late May.
