Still Blazing

Monica Wright (Col ’10), UVA’s all-time leading scorer in women’s basketball, was named to the 2010 WNBA All-Rookie Team after scoring in double digits in 10 games for the Minnesota Lynx.

While at UVA, Wright scored 2,540 career points and earned numerous honors, including first-team All-American and ACC Player of the Year in 2010.

Rowing Medals

Three former and current UVA rowers won medals at the 2010 Under 23 World Rowing Championships in Belarus.

Jennifer Cromwell (Col ’10), a three-time All-American while at UVA, rowed on the U.S. women’s eight team, which won gold for the third time in five years. Christine Roper (Col ’11) helped Canada take the bronze in that event, and Kathrin Ketterer (Col ’14) was on the German team that placed third in the women’s four.

Lacrosse MVP

Former UVA men’s lacrosse All-American Matt Poskay (Com ’06) of the Boston Cannons was selected as the 2010 Bud Light Major League Lacrosse Most Valuable Player.

This season, Poskay led the league by scoring 45 goals and 52 points in 12 games. He also set two team records—140 goals in 51 career games and 45 goals in a single season.

Humble Runner

UVA track standout Robby Andrews (Col ’13) received the 2009-10 ACC Male Sportsmanship Award in August for demonstrating good sportsmanship and ethical behavior in athletics.

Andrews, who earlier was named ACC Men’s Outdoor Track Performer of the Year, was honored for showing humility and poise after upsetting Olympian Andrew Wheating in the 800-meter race at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championship in March.

Hall of Famer

Former UVA soccer head coach Bruce Arena was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame Class of 2010 in August.

In addition to coaching the Cavaliers to five NCAA championships, Arena won two Major League Soccer titles and led the U.S. team to two World Cup appearances.
