Holding Steady

Still No. 2 among publics

This year’s U.S. News & World Report’s rankings of America’s best colleges yielded a familiar outcome for the University. UVA remains tied for second—with the University of California, Los Angeles—among all public universities and is tied for 24th among all universities, public and private. Harvard (tied with Princeton) and the University of California, Berkeley, retained their No. 1 rankings as best overall national university and best public university, respectively.

The University has ranked either first or second among publics since 1992 and has ranked among the top 25 nationally since the first rankings came out in 1988.
