From the Publisher: Supporting students, strengthening UVA
It’s hard to capture all the ways in which alumni creativity and generosity impact the University—we see it in alumni volunteer leadership, alumni-led programs, alumni-inspired courses, and countless career opportunities provided by alumni-led companies, just to name a few.
We also see it in the vast number of scholarships administered by the Alumni Association.
With charge of more than 250 funds and awards, our team manages one of the largest and most variegated scholarship portfolios in the country, disbursing more than $2.8 million in aid each year to hundreds of students across Grounds.
We fund scholarships at all levels, from modest stipends to full-tuition awards. And because of the Association’s unique history and structure, our scholarships team can find inventive ways to represent the myriad passions of our alumni base. We hold scholarships that seek women in engineering, students with West Indian ancestry, students who are the first in their family to go to college, and even students who have a captivating sense of humor. From musicians to future aerospace engineers, from budding history professors to biotech innovators, our scholarship recipients can graduate with less debt and greater confidence for the future.
The past two years have seen innovation and steady growth in a program that continues to deepen in its impact on the University community. And the numbers reflect that impact—since 2022, our program has attracted more than 9,000 applications. We continually follow and define national best practices, forming relationships with peer institutions and further establishing the UVA Alumni Association as a leader in the field.
Amid all the success, our motivation remains clear: to build strong bonds among current and future alumni, honoring inclusive excellence and leadership in all that we do. Thanks to the abundant creativity and generosity of the alumni base, our Scholarships program will continue to support some of UVA’s most talented and deserving students and, through them, strengthen the University.
