Biking to Uganda

Dan Addison

During the first week of April, students on stationary bikes pedaled the equivalent of more than 7,300 miles—the approximate distance between Charlottesville and Kampala, Uganda. With the help of 633 volunteer cyclists, the ride raised $10,000 toward the construction of an elementary school in Kampala.

“I refuse to leave the University until we have this one school under our belt,” says Mary Slosson (Col ’08), director of the UVA chapter of Building Tomorrow. The organization is within $8,000 of its $32,000 goal.
