United in Grief
The morning after 32 Virginia Tech faculty and students were shot and killed by a
fellow student on April 16, the Virginia state flag flies at half mast in front of the Rotunda.

Off to the Races
A sellout crowd of close to 23,000 revelers attended the 30th annual spring running of the
Foxfield Races on April 28. The Charlottesville tradition draws attendees from around the country,
including a large contingent of U.Va. students and alumni. This year also marked the debut
of the Alumni Association’s "Bagels and Buses," which featured breakfast at Alumni Hall
followed by transportation to and from the races.
