VERBATIM

"If you want to find out who Tiki and I are, we are a 100-percent reflection of our mother and what she's done and the values that she's placed on our lives. She would be as proud of us for doing this as she is when she watches us play on Sunday or when she watches us play with our kids."

-- Ronda Barber (Com '97), who with twin brother Tiki (Com '97) recently made a $1 million gift to U.Va. during a dinner that officially launched the University's $3 billion campaign. The Barbers served as emcees for the event, held in the John Paul Jones Arena.

The World of Dante

Created by Italian professor Deborah Parker while a fellow with the University's Institute for Advanced Technologies in the Humanities, this Web site brings Dante Alighieri's "Divine Comedy" to life through hundreds of images that are accessible through tagged text (in both Italian and English). A grant from teh National Endowment for the Humanities will allow Parker to expand the site to include Dante's "Purgatory" and "Paradise."

HOMECOMING
Charlottesville's Dave Matthews Band performed two sold-out shows on
Sept. 22 and 23 to officially open the John Paul Jones Arena. Though the
band had the honor of playing at the grand opening, the arena first opened
its doors on Aug. 1 for Cirque du Soleil.
